The Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, members of the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters, and others offer numerous resources to assist faith-based and community organizations with their efforts to prepare for all types of hazards, whether natural or human-caused. This webinar will highlight federal resources and partners to help community and faith leaders improve the safety and security of their facilities.

Join the IRC in Silver Spring on Tuesday, June 20th between 7-9pm for our annual World Refugee Day celebration! As the largest refugee resettlement agencies in Maryland, the IRC recognizes this day as a chance to celebrate the diverse cultural backgrounds of the refugees, asylees, and other humanitarian migrants we serve and the contributions they make to our community.
The ticketed event will be held at the Silver Spring Civic Center located in downtown Silver Spring at 1 Veterans Pl, Silver Spring, MD 20910 between 7-9pm and will feature performances, staff and refugee speakers, arts and crafts, food and drink, and activities. Montgomery Sister Cities invites you to volunteer as a member of our Sister Cities team in Morazán El Salvador this summer WHEN July 15 – July 17, 2017 WHERE Morazán El Salvador DETAILS See the flier Habitat’s vision: A world where everyone has a decent place to live
One in every three families in El Salvador lives in inadequate housing. Are you willing to get your hands dirty and work along side a family in need to provide them with safe and affordable housing? No experience necessary! just a willingness to give and to learn. Team responsibilities will likely include digging, carrying bricks, mixing cement, compacting dirt, moving materials and painting. Trip cost: $1495 plus airfare. Trip cost covers in country transport, food and lodging and a significant donation to Habitat for Humanity Itinerary: Day 1 arrival in San Salvador and orientation Day 2-visit the tomb of Oscar Romero and then on to Morazán Days 3 to 7- work on the build site with cultural activities Day 8- Leave Morazán for a day at the beach Day 9- Return home We will start recruitment in January. Join us for a Montgomery County interfaith and community gathering where we will discuss how can uphold our values and keep our community safe.
A panel of immigration experts and religious leaders will address the latest on the travel ban for predominantly Muslim countries and how to help residents of Montgomery county celebrate our diversity. The presentation will include an overview of the legal aspects of the an including the implications of the U.S Supreme Court rulings on the Trump administration’s executive orders, and short speeches by faith leaders on how different religions can ensure Montgomery County remains a welcoming place for everyone who lives here. Questions and oan open discussion will follow the presentation.
